People like us

People like us is a documentary that talk abous class difference and how it is viewed in the different set of eyes.the documentary interview different people in the different class structure and how do they view they're class in comparison to the other. In the society we live now the majority of indivials view themself as being in the middle class in society but i think them saying that gives them a feel or believe as if they are getting closer to the american dream or the high class. In the video there is a group which call themselves the " WASP'' and they believe that they are more pristige and better the rest of society because of the status they were born in ; and no matter what you do u can't buy yourself into their group is either you have it or you dont.  In the documentary people are judge by style, race, maney ,where they live, etc, etc.

I believe in the society we live in now that class does playa certain roll in our lives but it does not play as big as a roll. we are so diverse that alot of the concept or believes as before have become out dated ; though not completely but for the most part. Now class comes to play in the professional field or enviroment because how the saying goes"you have to play the part to get the part" and there is times where you have to portry a certain image to make your seld deem worthy for a certain role, place and scene.

Positive Functions of the Underserving Poor

In this article Herbert J. gans discussed some of the the under class in america and how it all ties up in society. he goes into how the rich stay richer and the poor stay poorer. the situation of being poor and the undeserving bring positive and negative effefct to society .The negative affect fall toward the poor side because the become labeled as unworthy or get looked at as if they where nothing in society, being poor or less fortunates makes society view you as less intelligent or capable then the middle or higher class. Being poor also creates a struggle when trying to look for employment because of "economic banishment and the reserve army of labor" as stated in the text.but as the poor stay poor the middle and higher class get more jobs opportunity due to the they're status. aslong as there is a fight for power there will always be someone who is less fortunate, it is just the nature of the beast .

Deviance

If you were to ask someone what is deviance, most people would probably relate the word with a negative meaning or act. The words deviance, deviant behavior, or deviant person has been applied to anyone who differs from the norms of society, therefore it has a negative connotation and most individuals would assume deviance is bad. Everyone can interpret deviance differently but should keep in mind that everyone has acted deviant in one way or another; the difference lies in the extent you choose to act deviant.

Gender socialization

1. Summarize Killing us Softly. (1-2 paragraphs)
Advertising sell products, it also sells concepts of love sexuality romance, success and normalcy. It tells us who we are and who we should be. Most important these advertisements tells women how they should look and what ideal beauty is. We learn that woman must spend time, energy and money striving to achieve this idea and at times feel shame and guilty when they fail. It objectifies women leading them to experience gender violence, eating disorders based on the images portrayed about women to being thin, women seemed to be silenced in some ads as though that should be her role in society, women are also taught to be passive even at a young age.

2. Summarize a Call to Men. (1-2 paragraphs)

A call to men is talking about how man are socialized. Tony Porter expressed his concern about how men are being brought up throught the expiriences in his life. He believes that alot of the crimes that female endure is tied with the way men are tought to be or act. In america from youth men are being tought they are not supposed to show their emotions because emotions is a sign of weekness. we are also tought that we are supposed to be providers and that women are there to be our wives and be used in the way that we want them to. we are also tought to be tough and never back down from nobody. These characteristics or the "male box'' is what is expected from men, and if deviated men are viewed ass weak or unworthy.

3. Explain how both video relate to our chapter on Socialization. (1-2 paragraphs)
The videos relate to each other and the chapter because it lets us know how much power or control our society has on us. We are brought up with certain values that is instilled in us from a very early age on how we are expected to be or act depending on our gender or race. It tells how the media plays a big role on how we are raised because it tell us what the dominent society views as norm.

4. Find one picture that represents the ways that boys and girls are socialized? (E.G. toys, TV, products etc.)

Culture

If you where to ask me what culture was two weeks ago, I probably would have said it was something that defined an individual or the group he came from. I thought it could only tell us about the person they would be expected to become or morals they were expected to follow, but culture is way more than that. Culture is the past, present, and future. Culture is a tool for survival as it lets us know what has has worked in the past but at the same time it is unpredictable because it could always change due to the way the world around us does. If you look at our world now you will realize that out material and non material cultures have change from what the elder generation viewed as norm, but that is the beauty about culture it defines some of what we are but also keeps us guessing where we might end up in the future.

If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him.

Who am I?

So who am I? well for now i guess i am a college student called Edward, who used to be in the Navy and recently got out. I am also a person who is trying to figure out what defines him, but for know what defines me is someone who is pursuing a career in something i love to do which is automotive. As a person i could be described as a very passive but opinionated individual who like to view thing a various prospective to be able to understand people. I am a person who likes to be challenged and loves to feel pressure or to be "put on the clutch". As fr my biggest influences in life i would have to say my mother, she has always fought for a family and even though life hasn't served her simple meal she has always push forward and done her best to make sure we were taken care of.  Writing this post is hard for me because i never like to think about myself because my pleasure and thrive and ambitions is to make sure my loved ones are taken care of.  I guess i am someone who is still figuring things out but know which direction i am heading.
